Some of you will be familiar with these ‘goodie’ bags that I give out at the end of a session. They contain Epsom Salts that can be used for a detox bath after a massage. These salts have reportedly been used for over 400 years, ever since a farmer in Epsom discovered that the "bitter water" in his wells had remarkable healing properties on skin rashes and injuries.
Epsom Salts contain magnesium and may reduce swelling in people with certain types of inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout, and psoriatic arthritis. It is claimed the minerals "draw out" toxins which exacerbate inflammation. Epsom Salts are the perfect accompaniment to your massage - they relax muscles, ease stiffness and pain, and exfoliate dead skin cells.
How to take a detox bath:
Add 2 cups of Epsom Salt when running a bath - the water should be warm, but not too hot.
Soak in the bath for roughly 20 minutes, or longer if desired, and avoid using soap.
Rest for at least an hour after a detox bath or, ideally, take your bath at bedtime.
Enjoy your detox bath!
